9:30 CLUB LIVE MUSIC DC PHOTOGRAPHER

Photographing live events always feels like coming home.
The energy, the music, the ringing in my ears because I forgot my earplugs and the angle I want means standing right next to the speaker…all of it. When I first picked up a camera, I was photographing so many live events–belly dance, sideshow and burlesque, swing and blues dancing, fire performance, concerts, and more–that I basically taught myself to shoot in the dark. As my career grew I found myself documenting these events less and less, and with the onset of COVID the game changed entirely.
When Bedlam Brass announced they’d be playing DC’s 9:30 Club with Dan Deacon, I was delighted to be able to photograph the beautiful chaos in such an incredible venue. With Patrick McMinn followed by Alex Silva kicking it off, the night was an epic round of musical glory and a fantastic return to live music.
