One of the best things about being an artist is the opportunities to try something new, to play, and to collaborate with other artists. When burlesque performer Isabelle Epoque asked if I would photograph her in a mermaid tank, I said hell yes!
What is a mermaid tank? What did we want to do? How does one shoot underwater subjects? I didn’t know any of these things, but I said yes because it meant making art with other creative folks and trying something new. These kinds of projects are always great, but making art and experimenting feels especially great right now as we start to poke our vaccinated heads out into 2021.
This series was a great way to stretch my creative wings again. As weddings and portraits and family sessions start showing up on my calendar again, I’m so grateful to be able to be behind a camera. The creative inspiration and spark also feels especially high. The Circus Siren Pod mermaid tank was a fantastic experience—so much so that I went back the next day to photograph a mermaid, and am starting to scheme up a full day of underwater/mermaid photo sessions!
Stay tuned for the mermaid photos, and updates about the opportunity to get in this tank yourself. For now, enjoy some art 🙂
