A Cosplayer’s Dream: The Cloisters Castle Wedding Venue

Picking the right wedding venue is definitely no small feat, but if you’re looking for the perfect wedding with those fairytale vibes, a Cloisters Castle wedding is right up your alley.

I’m just going to throw this out there right now. Cloisters Castle isn’t technically a castle. But, let’s be honest, it is close enough and still makes you and your partner feel like you are total royalty.

As a Maryland wedding photographer, I’ve had the chance to capture multiple weddings here and it is such a unique venue and experience. Each wedding I’ve done here has felt totally different and everyone has been able to add their own flair to the venue to really make the day their own.

If you’re thinking about having a Cloister Castle wedding, here are some of the best things to know about the venue before your big day.

Where to Have Your Ceremony

Hands down the best place to have your ceremony here has to be their courtyard. You are surrounded by nature and feel like you are tucked away in your own world. Plus there’s a small wooden awning leading out behind the courtyard that feels like it was taken straight from a storybook.

There’s also a small amphitheater that you can also use for your ceremony. This is where Evin and Andrew tied the knot together and it created the perfect, intimate spot for them to start their new life together.

If the weather isn’t great on your wedding day, you can have your ceremony in the Gallery. This is also a reception space for them and while the outdoor locations are definitely the highlight of this venue, it is also good to know that they have a backup plan!

Where is The Cloisters Wedding Venue?

Another thing that I absolutely love about Cloisters Castle is that it is the perfect wedding venue near Baltimore. While you feel like you are in a world of your own when you are there, you can be right back in Baltimore in 20 minutes.

This is great for a couple of reasons. If you are local to Baltimore, this means that you can stay in your own house the night before your wedding. You don’t have to worry about getting up super early or forgetting something that you need because it’s just a short drive to the venue.

On the other hand, if you are from out of town and planning your wedding here (or even if you have any guests coming in from outside the area), there are so many places that you can stay to make getting to the venue in the morning an absolute breeze.

Who is The Cloisters Venue Right For?

Now, let’s get down to what you really want to know. Who is this venue actually right for? And, while you can say that most venues can fit most couples, this is absolutely the perfect venue for anyone looking to have an out-of-the-box and unique wedding.

I’m talking Friday the 13th meets Star Wars, acrobat performers at your reception, the whole nine yards. So for any nerds out there who want to do your wedding in the most authentic to you way possible, this venue may be the perfect backdrop for you.

Obviously, with this venue also being a castle (or at least castle-esque), anyone looking to plan a fantasy, renaissance fair, or medieval-themed wedding would fit right in here. The best part is that there isn’t a ton of decorating you need to do to actually feel like you are getting the full effect.

The venue itself has so many amazing parts to it and really gives off the ancient and royal feel without actually being ancient at all.

Plus, the staff and everyone who works at the venue are all for these crazy, cosplay, unique weddings. You don’t have to feel like you will be misunderstood or like you are going to be the black sheep coming to them and asking for a Star Wars-themed wedding.

As someone who loves everything outside the norm and jumps at the opportunity to do anything fun and unique and totally you, I can tell you that this venue is really the perfect place to let your imagination run wild and plan the wedding that you and your partner really want.

Can’t Miss Spots Around the Venue

I really wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t mention a few of the absolute must-visit places around the venue on your wedding day. The first one has to be the spiral staircase. This is one of the best places around the venue to take portraits. It gives you the perfect combination of that medieval feel while also feeling really grand and cinematic.

For another really unique location, you can head out to their windmill. Not many venues are going to have one in the first place, let alone one that is this unique. The windmill is built into a small stone building that matches the look and feel of the rest of the castle.

There’s also a stone staircase that leads up the side of the windmill which is so simple but incredible at the same time.

Finally, although I could go on and on about this venue, the last place that you definitely don’t want to miss out on is the front steps. I know this seems pretty obvious, but I still have to say it.

The front steps are really the culmination of all of the beautiful spots around the venue. You have the stonework of the castle on full display, the walkway leading up with beautiful, simple stairs, and greenery surrounding you on every side. Plus there are some incredible details on the front of the building that really make this area one of a kind.

Final Thoughts on The Cloisters Castle Wedding Venue

For any of my cosplay/fantasy/medieval-loving friends out there, a Cloisters Castle wedding is the perfect place to bring that fun and unique side of you and your partner into your wedding in a way that feels unique and special to you.

There is really no limit to what you can do here and the beauty of the venue itself just makes everything so much better. Plus, with it being right outside of the city, it really is the perfect combination of being in a world of your own without having to go that far.

Now all you need is the perfect photographer to capture your wedding here. As someone who loves anything but the ordinary, I would love to be a part of bringing your dream wedding to life. Whether you want to go full-on fantasy, Star Wars, Halloween, Lord of the Rings, or anything in between, I would love to be your partner in letting your imagination run wild!
